An interesting article "Will Insitutional Repository hurt my SSRN ranking?" was published in the April 2012 issue of the AALL Spectrum. Authors are very interested in how many downloads their scholarly articles receive and questions often arise whether including their scholarship in an institutional repository detracts from their SSRN downloads. Law library directors James Donovan (Kentucky) and Carol Watson (Georgia) have written about and presented frequently on the topic of institutional repositories versus SSRN and their report explains why exposing faculty scholarship through multiple repositories with different audiences is beneficial, increases readership, and should be encouraged.
The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law maintains the Digitalcommon@UM Law as well as Research Papers Series in SSRN .
